Amarillo will be one of three sites in a state pilot program designed to track cases of a hard-to-treat staph infection. The program would force doctors' offices, hospitals and labs in Potter and Randall counties to report methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus cases to the health department. The exact details on reporting are still being finalized. "What it will provide us is evidence of contact between individuals," director Matt Richardson said. The program should help the Amarillo Public Health Department learn who is infected and how infections are transmitted.
