Wrestling Camp and Offseason Club Hygiene

Club and camp season is around the corner

With our conference, state, and national tournaments around the corner, it’s never too early to think about the offseason and a much-needed break as far as the grind of the regular season with training, competing, and making weight on a weekly basis. Most school/team schedules will be coming to a close after the postseason with regularly scheduled practice times ending along with it. Many wrestlers continue their training at clubs and regional training centers to prepare for the freestyle season or just to simply continue training and developing their skills. As this continues into the end of the school year and into summer, we start to see the rise of camps and clinics all over the country. In both a club and camp setting, we are usually in a different environment around different wrestlers and in different rooms where we do not know what type of hygiene protocols are currently in place. Obviously, it is always safe to err on the side of caution when it comes to protecting ourselves when we are in one of these different atmospheres where there is more uncertainty in what is being done to prevent infection and sickness.

Season might almost be over, but don’t let your guard down

Wrestlers are a lot more transient this time of the year with new faces coming and going every week. It is important for coaches and parents to be cognizant that skin infections are extremely communicable by nature and there is a much higher risk when more wrestlers are being exposed to different environments that could expose them to harmful infection and pass this along to others. Additionally, wrestling rooms might not be receiving daily mat cleanings or a high attention to hygiene in comparison to the regular season. It is more important in times like these, when there are more variables, that we are protecting ourselves with regular showers after practices and keeping equipment cleaned regularly.

Camps can be a wrestler’s first time in a dorm

Camps, especially resident camps where wrestlers spend multiple nights in a dorm, present even more challenges. Younger wrestlers don’t have a parent to ensure that proper hygiene and regular showers are being taken after every session, so it is important for camp counselors and coaches to enforce this for the safety of all campers. Additionally, education on proper hygiene with effective products should always be stressed in a dorm setting where infection can be spread more easily.

Defended by Defense Soap

In order to help our wrestling community with these challenges, Defense Soap has partnered with the NWCA to provide both clubs and camps with programs to help them keep their wrestlers safe. This offseason, all clubs will have access to special team pricing for all Defense Soap products and access to our learning center for education on hygiene and prevention from infection. We are also proud to offer all camps access to our “Camp Defended by Defense Soap” program that allows our products to be purchased directly through your online camp registration site. These products will be available upon the campers’ arrival for their use throughout their stay. Participating camps will also receive wholesale pricing and can use this as an additional revenue stream for their camps with no investment whatsoever. We are currently integrated with ARMS and MyOnlineCamps registration software with more to come. Please feel free to contact us with any questions about either of these programs at 866-544-1689 or by email at guy@defensesoap.com
